REMEMBERING LOLA

On February 7, 2008, a bright and shining star was born in St George, Utah. That beautiful gift was Lola Yvette Donelson. On Friday, October 13, 2023, after a brief, sudden illness, Lola earned her well-deserved angel wings. She was 15.

Lola lived most of her life in Henderson, Nevada with her parents, George and Christina, and sister, Vivian. When Vivian joined the family in 2009, Lola was naturally a loving big sister.

Lola spent her early school years at Foothills Montessori School where she touched the hearts of many wonderful friends, teachers, and staff. These were some of her happiest years.

In 2022, Lola moved with her family to Pikesville, Maryland, to attend Garrison Forest School. She chose this school for its equestrian program and its reputation for building strong women. Lola brought her beloved horse, Carey, with her to Garrison Forest. She considered Carey her foundation, strength, and heart. She also developed a strong connection with Balou, with whom she recently won several blue ribbons and a championship.

Throughout her life, Lola’s superpower was empathy, as she cared strongly and deeply about others. She had an innate sense of justice far beyond her years and would readily stand up for anyone – whether she knew them or not – if she felt they were being wronged or mistreated. Even before she could talk, Lola would approach others she saw in distress to offer a helping hand. She was so very brave, with a loving and strong heart.

Her laugh could fill a room, wrapping it in a unique combination of joy, warmth, and love. And her incredibly clever wit would often catch people off guard, providing a glimpse into how extraordinarily wise she was.

Lola had a magical energy that could brighten any space she was in and any hearts she was near. It’s no wonder she had a lifelong love of unicorns. She herself was a mystical, magical creature.

With an abundance of music in her soul, when Lola sang, she stirred many to tears. She was also regularly caught moving to the groove of music on the radio, as well as the songs in her head. She had the effervescence of a brilliant STARR in her smile and it was our privilege to be shined on by her bright light.

Lola’s legacy will live on through the memories of her loved ones. She leaves to remember and mourn: her parents, George and Christina Donelson; her sister, Vivian Donelson; her grandmother, Marsha Duggins; uncle Mike Duggins, Jr. (Brande); cousins Dylan (Chelsea), and Karyssa.  She will also be truly missed by a host of beloved cousins, relatives and friends she cherished like family.

Although gone from this Earth, Lola will add to the starry night sky as a radiant beacon of love and hope. We will see her in the beauty of daily sunrises and sunsets and hear her musical soul in any song that moves us.

She has left an indelible mark on so many and will forever remain in our hearts.
